Slightly Stoopid Answer The Fan’s Questions
A few weeks back we asked of SLIGHTLY STOOPID fans to submit questions that would be asked of the band. So we put out an all points bulletin and got some questions for the band.
Here’s what they had to say when the fans asked.
When people listen to your music, what do you want them to walk away with?
RYMO: I want people to go away with a smile and a nice buzz. We are trying to spread good vibes and good fun. We play party music.
KYLE: Warm and fuzzy with an air humping feeling. I don’t know.Do you guys write any lyrics first or do you write along with the creation of the music?
RYMO: Our songs get written in any way imaginable. There’s no real formula. Kyle would have a rhythm or chord progression in mind, or Miles would have some lyrics etc. Or it could be the other way around. We run with an idea, and then start refining it.
KYLE: Both. What’s your favorite venue to play?
RYMO: Red Rocks, CO…Central Park, NY…Greek Theatre, Berkley, CA…House of Blues, Belly Up and Winston’s in SD…
KYLE: Celebrity Theatre in AZ cause it spins. How did you guys come up with a sound so unique and original?
RYMO: Put a bunch of weirdos in a room with instruments and other things…
KYLE: I don’t know. We have many styles, we’re versatile. Why did you decide to go into reggae music and what reggae artists are your biggest influences?
RYMO: Reggae feels good. Too many to list. If I listed 10 I’d be forgetting 100.
KYLE: Cause its feeling music. You can hear it and listen to it, but best of all you can feel it. Alpha Blondie, UB40, Sublime, Bob, Peter, Family Man, Scratch, Supercat, Jr. Cat, Nicodemus, Jr. Demus, Courtney Melody, Cutty Ranks, Delroy, Don Carlos, Vicroys, Pato Bantan, Tippa Lee, Gladiators.Outside of reggae, who are some of you favorite groups and influences?
RYMO: Lots of other stuff. Punk, hip hop, rock, soul, funk, jazz, blues, etc…
KYLE: Zepplin, Beasties, Motley Crue, Nirvana, Meters, Django…What was your biggest inspiration for the new album, and what is your favorite song off of it?
RYMO: Making a new album is always inspiring. We are music makers. When we get in to the studio we are ready. We eat, sleep, and breathe the stuff. I like all the songs, because to me they each represent different moods.
KYLE: Having fun with the band at the pad.How did you guys get Guru from GangStarr to be on the album?
KYLE: He came to a Stoopid show and was super cool. We are big fans of Gang Starr and sent him the track. Some famous astronomers call your fourth album, Closer To The Sun, “The Official Soundtrack Of The Perihelion”, which is of course the term for when Earth reaches the point of orbit closest to the sun. Is there life on other planets?
RYMO: Yes. We are a speck in the galaxy…how could there not be other life?
KYLE: SUREIt looks like Stoopid Records is signing new talent such as The Expendables. If a group wanted to submit their music to your label what would be the best way for you to hear it?
RYMO: Live. I’d rather see a great band rock the crowd and get it going, than hear a great CD put together by guys that can’t play live. There’s enough of that already isn’t there. Will we see an acoustic roots part 2?
RYMO: Yes…you will. What happened to the punk?? Is it true you guys are going to release an internet EP of punk/metal jams?
RYMO: Yes. We will be releasing something in ’08.On your Acoustic Roots album you covered Guns N Roses’ “Used To Love Her” which contains the lyric, “I had to put her six feet under, and I can still hear her complain”. What was her problem, will Chinese Democracy be any good, was Gravedigger the best monster truck, and why? Does anyone care about the GnR album without any of the original band?
RYMO: I don’t. Chinese democracy could be amazing, but I’m over it…Monster trucks, don’t know much about ‘em. Definitely not. You’re originally from Ocean Beach which for some reason always reminds me of an avenue that I lived by in Philadelphia called “Street Road”… Anyway, Ocean Beach’s Wikipedia entry begins with, “Ocean Beach is a beachfront neighborhood of San Diego, California, known for its open-mindedness and fierce independence. Comprised of an eclectic mix of surfers, punks, bikers, granolas, intellectuals, and families, few things are not tolerated.” Can you please tell us what those few things are?
RYMO: Nope.If it wasn’t for music, what would you guys be doing?
RYMO: Selling hot dogs on a street corner in New York or surfing in Indonesia. What are the band’s favorite “stoner movies” of all time?
RYMO: Cheech n Chong, Old School, Dazed and Confused…

can’t wait for acoustic roots part 2!
From a die-hard stoopid fans point of view, they could have asked a lot better questions. I mean, what is it like for the band to be going to sold out concerts where people are actully traveling around the world to follow them? This one would be for Rymo. Rymo, why don’t you smoke weed when on tour? How is it that you only smoke weed while at home? I don’t know, but what I can tell you is that Rymo and Miles are the spokes people for the band. They are the ones that are good with the media however Kyle and Oggie, wil give the answers straight up. They don’t get into interview mode and just start saying random “good” answers. Anyways, overall, A good interview but come on stoopidheads, come up with some better in questions. Later dayz.
another acoustic cd
that interview was weak !!
aLyssa
The fans asked the questions. So if you think it was weak, you as a fan should ask better questions.
