Twin Atlantic

Over the years Scotland hasn’t cranked out the sheer number of bands their other European brethren countries have, but what they lack in quantity often translates into some solid quality bands (we’re looking at you Idlewild and Belle & Sebastian).

Take for example the country’s latest export, Twin Atlantic. This Glasgow quartet has just released their debut LP Vivarium overseas and look like they will soon storm the shores of the US and make a few of our own take notice.

It’s pretty easy to notice this young band grew up listening to a lot of American bands, more specifically early emo bands that specialize in fast changing song movements with flat-out vocals that wail. But that’s not saying the band is merely mimicking a style. When listening to their music, it’s hard not to realize the accent of frontman Sam McTrusty as he and the rest of the band blast out some hard fought lyrics with a passion and abandon that’s always wasted on the young.

Vivarium is available digitally now on iTunes and there are plans for the album to get a proper release in 2010. The band also plans to tour the states around the same time. They were just in the NYC area for the CMJ Marthon where they played the first of what we hope are many East Coast shows.

I can’t wait for them to come back over to the US! Their songs are so catchy, I’m excited to hear them live.
